How Can We Control Blog Spamming

For some strange reason, my blog is being bombarded with [tag]spam comments[/tag].  This has always been a minor issue but this past week the spam comments on my blog have tripled.  At first I thought nothing of it, then I came across a post from Weblog Tools Collection.

Apparently this has been a major issue for both blogs and websites alike.  Performancing and their ever popular Firefox plugin[tag] ScribeFire [/tag]is down.  I’m sure the effect of that situation has left advertisers and publishers chasing their tails.  Performancing ad network has really taken off over the last few months and one can only hope they get back online soon.

So my only question is, why the sudden increase in blog spammers.  Did they all get together and make it their New Year’s Resolution to increase the number of spam comments they submit.  There has to be a way to patrol this issue.
